Master Plan
Abundant Clean Energy for Europe
Tony Schumacher, Co-Founder & CEO of Terra One, February 18, 2025
Germany's Industrial Shutdown
December 12, 2024, one of Germany's largest steel production plants, shut down production overnight. Electricity prices had surged to €1,000 per megawatt hour—ten times higher than average. It was the third production halt that month.
Cloudy windless days caused Germany's wind and solar production to drop 85% below normal. Without sufficient energy storage, the country had to rely on expensive fossil fuels.
Three weeks later, another facility halted steel production when prices jumped to €400/MWh.
These aren't isolated incidents. They represent a fundamental breakdown in Germany's energy system.

December 2024 was a clear example of what Germany's future energy market might look like. Prices surged from €120 to €4,000 within 14 hours. Source: energy-charts.de
Pay to produce power
In 2024, Germany experienced 459 hours of negative electricity prices and the cost of grid congestion reached €4.25bn. We're paying producers to stop generating clean electricity when we have too much, then paying absurd prices when we don't have enough.
This paradox has made Germany's energy market one of the most volatile in the world. Prices can jump 10x in just a few hours. Germany now faces the highest power prices and carbon emissions in Europe, with electricity costs being three times higher than those in the USA. A significant economic disadvantage.
Large-Scale Storage
Terra One's goal is to provide reliable, clean, and affordable electricity for every home and business in Europe. Our Grid-scale battery storage systems (BESS) are tools to capture excess renewable energy when it's plentiful and release it when demand peaks, stabilizing the grid and driving down costs.
In the initial buildout phase, Terra One is targeting 30 GWh of battery capacity in Germany—a 10x increase over what's installed today. This requires about €7 billion in capital expenditure.
To maximize the value of the battery capacity, we’ve developed T1 AI. An AI system that forecasts and responds to market changes with speed and precision.
Power Market Intelligence
We operate as a fully integrated company, controlling everything from site selection and construction to long-term operation. We don't depend on third-party trading companies that manually operate batteries using human judgment. Instead, we have built a Power Market Intelligence (T1 AI), capable of understanding the complexity of Europe's interconnected market.
T1 AI monitors energy production, demand, weather, and pricing across Europe. It is trained on over 2TB of historical data. The AI is integrated into our automated trading system. It buys power when production is high and sells when it is low, delivering electricity when the grid needs it most.
The system makes markets efficient, provides liquidity, and stabilizes prices.
Flywheel
Delivering the highest possible return per battery is crucial for attracting institutional investors.
As our AI deepens its understanding of the European market, it boosts revenues, which we reinvest to expand battery capacity. Since our batteries operate autonomously, adding storage capacity requires minimal effort. High profits attract investors, fueling more storage projects.
Over time, our growing battery network will reduce Europe’s reliance on fossil fuels, lower energy costs, and drive economic growth.
Join us
Terra One is about rebuilding European economic leadership. Abundant clean energy is the foundation of a thriving economy. With Terra One's battery network and AI intelligence, we're making sure renewables can be stored and deployed whenever people need power—the same way we expect water to flow from our taps.
We're excited to work with investors, partners, and anyone who shares our vision for a cleaner, stronger Europe. By pushing the boundaries of battery technology and AI development, we are creating a future of abundant sustainable energy.
Let's build that future together.
